We all like to talk about the "best cars ever" and what was the greatest classic car ever...here's a fun list of the "Worst Cars of All Time" from Time magazine.
HERE'S A SAMPLE OF THE LIST
Fifty years ago, Ford introduced the EDSEL to the world. . . and, in less than two years, it became known as one of the most spectacular failures in automotive history.
--In honor of its debut, "Time" magazine just put out a GREAT list of the 50 worst cars of all time. Here are some of the highlights:
--FORD EDSEL, 1958. Quote, "Fuel thirsty and too expensive, it was the first victim of Madison Avenue hyper-hype. . . The public expect[ed] some plutonium-powered, pancake-making wondercar; what they got was a Mercury.
--AMPHICAR, 1961. "The Amphicar was both a lousy car and a lousy boat. It's single greatest demerit, and this is a big one, was that it wasn't particularly watertight."
--AMC PACER, 1978. "The worst car design of all time."
--DELOREAN DMC-12, 1981. "The car was heavy, underpowered and overpriced. And [JOHN] DE LOREAN was having dramas of his own. . . sitting in a hotel room with suitcases of money, discussing the supply-and-demand of [cocaine]."
--CAMARO IRON DUKE, 1982. "The 2.5-liter, four-cylinder 'Iron Duke' was the smallest, least powerful, most un-Camaro-like engine that could be. . . the Iron Duke Camaro had zero-to-60 acceleration of around 20 seconds."
--YUGO GV, 1985. "Built in Soviet-bloc Yugoslavia, the Yugo had the distinct feeling of something assembled at gunpoint."
--FORD EXPLORER, 1995. "How could the best-selling passenger vehicle in America, 14 years running, wind up on this list? In its very success, the Ford Explorer is responsible

--PONTIAC AZTEK, 2001. "We like cars that look like us. With its multiple eyes and supernumerary nostrils, the Aztek looks deformed and scary. . . this car could not have been more instantly hated if it had a Swastika tattoo on its forehead."
--HUMMER H2, 2003. "Introduced shortly after 9/11, the Hummer H2 sent all the wrong signals. It was/is arrogantly huge, overtly militaristic, openly scornful of the common good." (Time)
